Aakash Chopra Opens Up On Choosing The Hindi Language For Commentary
Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer turned commentator, is a pretty famous name in the cricketing circuits and he is liked by many Indian cricket fans, especially by those who love to hear commentary in Hindi.
There is no denying the fact that Hindi commentary was not given much importance before 2012 when Star Sports, the host broadcaster of Indian cricket, decided to explore this field. Since then, Aakash has been a favourite name among the lovers of Hindi commentary and his popularity started increasing from the 2013 Champions Trophy which was played in England.
Aakash Chopra is quite witty; he has a good command in the Hindi language and his one-liners also help him in keeping audiences engaged. While giving an interview, Aakash opened up about the fact that despite being equally good in English, why he opted to do commentary in Hindi.
As per Aakash Chopra, he is more natural in Hindi as it is his first language. He further added that as he was with Star Sports from the beginning phase of the Hindi commentary, he had the opportunity to create a new template while on the other hand, the template in English was already prepared. He also said that there are some who create their own style different from template such as Danny Morrison but he is not Danny.
Talking about Hindi commentary, Aakash said that he never tried to do shayari like Navjot Singh Sidhu because he is not good at it. Aakash is pretty clear with the fact that he should play to his strengths which is playing with words, rhyming or pun. When he was asked about the piece of commentary that he loved the most, he talked about the commentary of Ravi Shastri which he did in India-England match of 2007 T20 World Cup in which Yuvraj Singh hit six sixers in an over of Stuart Broad. Aakash said that it is not easy to do commentary in such a scenario because every time you just can’t say that it is a six, a commentator has to be creative and that is where theatre comes into play.
