Harsha Bhogle Gives A Fitting Reply To Virat Kohli’s “Leave India” Comment
The Indian cricket captain has landed himself amidst another controversy. Not very shocking, isn’t it? Virat Kohli, who is undisputedly the star of cricket at present, has always been blunt and outspoken about what he believes is right. He’s never shied away from speaking up or expressing his opinions. And we aren’t complaining either! But then again, it is his comments which usually land him in trouble.
Two sides of the same coin, right?
Recently, a fan tweeted critiquing Kohli and called him an “overrated batsmen.” The fan went on to comment that he preferred to watch international cricketers, as compared to the Indian Cricket Team.
A tad bit too harsh? We agree.
Virat, of course, could not take it lying down and retorted, saying
“I don’t think you should live in India. Go and live somewhere else. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don’t mind you not liking me. I don’t think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right.”
Yikes. This, inevitably, sparked a series of controversies. Now, is Virat’s “Leave India” comment justified? Or is it just one of his many infuriated rants, the brunt of which the Indian team has had to face in the past?
Guess who had an opinion?
Countering Virat’s view, Harsha Bhogle spoke up, saying:
“Virat Kohli’s statement is a reflection of the bubble that most famous people either slip into or are forced into. The voices within it are frequently those that they wish to hear. It is a comfortable bubble and that is why famous people must try hard to prevent it from forming. That is also why contrary opinions are frowned upon. Power and fame tend to attract those people who agree with you and reinforce your opinion because they benefit from proximity to fame and power.”

In other words, Virat Kohli is currently residing in a bubble of his own fame and stardom. A common predicament that most stars suffer from, no? Cooped up in his safe bubble, Virat refuses to acknowledge the viewpoints of others. Maybe next time, the Indian cricket captain would be slightly more cautious of his words, instead of taking every criticism that comes his way as a personal attack.
One can only hope.
