In an era when spectacle often grabs attention, it is easy to forget the quiet power of simple storytelling. Yet Hindi cinema owes some of its most enduring moments to a filmmaker who believed deeply in human emotions, everyday struggles and gentle humour.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee did not rely on grand sets or extravagant budgets. Instead, he trusted his stories, his actors and the sincerity of ordinary lives. Between the late 1960s and the mid-1970s, he created four films within a short span of six years that continue to feel as fresh and meaningful today as they did decades ago.

What made these films special was their honesty. They were free from exaggerated villains and dramatic twists, focusing instead on people, relationships and values. Released during a time of change in Indian society, these films spoke softly but left a lasting echo. 1. Satyakam (1969):

Released in 1969, Satyakam was perhaps the most serious and intense of the four. Produced by NC Sippy, Anand featured music by Salil Chowdhury with lyrics by Gulzar and Yogesh Gaur. Songs like Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye and Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli Haaye became timeless classics. Parveen Rizvi is a well-known Pakistani actress, filmmaker and director. She has acted in films like Koh-e-Noor, Yeh Aman, Naag Muni, Bin Badal Barsat, Society Girl, and Joora. As a director, she has helmed projects including Ishq Ishq, Mian Biwi Raazi, Mutthi Bhar Chawal, and Yeh Wada Raha.

Not Wasim Akram Or Kapil Dev, Faf Du Plessis Names This Indian As Greatest Pacer Of All Time

In a statement that is sure to spark debate among cricket fans, former South African captain Faf du Plessis has named India’s Jasprit Bumrah as the greatest fast bowler of all time.

In a video shared by a sports portal, Faf du Plessis was asked to choose a better fast bowler than Jasprit Bumrah from a star-studded list. The names included legends like Wasim Akram, Dale Steyn, Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose, Kapil Dev, Allan Donald, James Anderson, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Waqar Younis, Courtney Walsh, Richard Hadlee, Dennis Lillee, Ian Botham and Lasith Malinga.

But Faf didn’t hesitate.

He said he would stick with Jasprit Bumrah. When asked if there was anyone he would pick over the Indian pacer, his answer was simple – NO.

Explaining his choice, Faf du Plessis pointed out that many of the all-time greats never played T20 cricket, which makes comparisons tricky. He mentioned that while bowlers like Wasim Akram were exceptional, especially with their yorkers and reverse swing, conditions were different in their era. According to him, reverse swing was more common back then, whereas modern-day bowlers operate in different circumstances. Considering Jasprit Bumrah’s effectiveness across formats, especially in T20 cricket, Faf du Plessis placed him at the top.

Jasprit Bumrah’s numbers certainly strengthen the argument. Since making his international debut against Australia in an ODI in Sydney on January 23, 2016, he has taken 497 wickets in 233 matches across formats. He has claimed 234 wickets in 52 Tests, 149 in 89 ODIs and 114 in 92 T20Is.

His recent achievements add further weight. Jasprit Bumrah picked up 15 wickets in the 2024 T20 World Cup and was named the Player of the Tournament. In 2024, he also finished as the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket and won both the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards.

In the IPL, Jasprit Bumrah represents Mumbai Indians and has taken 183 wickets in 145 matches for the franchise.

Currently playing in the T20 World Cup 2026, Bumrah is on the verge of another milestone. South Africa crushed West Indies by nine wickets and with India’s 72-run win later that evening, the Proteas officially sealed their place in the semi-finals.

After the match, Hardik Pandya openly shared that the players were aware of what was happening elsewhere. He said everyone was keeping track of the South Africa-West Indies contest. However, once that match ended, the Indian team made a conscious effort to block out the noise and concentrate only on their own performance. According to him, the key was to play quality cricket, trust their skills, handle pressure smartly and give their best in the moment.

Batting first, India piled up 256/4, the highest total of this edition of the tournament. The charge was led by Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma, who both struck blazing half-centuries.

Reflecting on his innings, Hardik Pandya said he was pleased but also admitted he had to adjust during his knock. He felt he was initially trying to hit too hard but realised that timing the ball cleanly would be more effective. For him, it was satisfying to regain rhythm after a few games where things hadn’t gone as planned.

Zimbabwe fought back through Brian Bennett who remained unbeaten on 97 but the chase was always steep. They finished at 184 for six in 20 overs.

Arshdeep Singh starred with the ball, taking three wickets for 24 runs. Although Hardik Pandya didn’t claim a wicket, he was content with conceding just 21 runs in his three overs. He said he enjoys bowling with the new ball because it swings both ways, allowing him to challenge batters and create wicket-taking opportunities.

In typical Hardik Pandya fashion, he ended his interaction by mentioning he still had one over left to bowl, before jogging off to complete it.

Karnataka HC Slams Ranveer Singh, Issues Sharp Warning Over Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Mimicry

What began as a stage performance at a film festival has now turned into a serious legal battle for Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh. On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court granted him temporary relief in a case linked to his remarks at a public event, but the court made it clear that his celebrity status would not shield him from responsibility.

Justice M Nagaprasanna stopped the police from arresting Ranveer until March 2. However, while granting this protection, the judge strongly criticised the actor’s conduct. The court said that being famous and influential means carrying greater responsibility. It stressed that no one has the right to casually speak about religious figures in a way that could hurt people’s beliefs.

The judge questioned whether an apology could truly undo the impact of words, especially in the digital age where content remains online permanently. The court also noted that freedom of speech does not extend to mocking religious sentiments.

The matter relates to an incident at the International Film Festival of India in Goa last November. During the closing ceremony, Ranveer mimicked actor Rishab Shetty’s Daiva performance from the film Kantara. The performance in the film is inspired by a sacred ritual linked to Goddess Chamundeshwari. The court observed that Rishab had portrayed a deity on screen, and even if Ranveer did not fully understand the religious importance, referring to the character as a “ghost” and copying the act in a humorous manner could hurt sentiments. It was also pointed out that Rishab was present at the event and had tried to stop Ranveer, both during the act and later in person.

Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayy, appearing for Ranveer, argued that the comments were misunderstood and that there was no intention to offend any community.

For now, Ranveer has protection from arrest but must cooperate fully with the investigation. The case has sparked a wider debate about how public figures should handle religious and cultural subjects with care and sensitivity.

This loss was historic for the wrong reasons. It marked India’s biggest defeat by runs in the T20 World Cup history and their first loss in an ICC tournament since the 2023 ODI World Cup final. It was also their first T20 World Cup defeat since 2022.

Speaking on a Pakistani TV channel after the match, Tanvir Ahmed said India had long depended on Virat Kohli’s ability to control difficult chases. According to him, Virat Kohli often absorbed the pressure when required run rates climbed above 12 runs per over, allowing other batters to play more freely around him. With Virat Kohli no longer in the dressing room, Tanvir Ahmed felt the team struggled to handle that kind of pressure.
